Tornado watch for area lifted

No major damage reported in Whitfield, Murray counties

The tornado watch for Whitfield and Murrray counties has been lifted, according to the National Weather Service.

There has been no major damage reported in Whitfield or Murray counties.

Murray County was under a tornado warning until 12:15 p.m. today.

A tornado warning means a tornado has been spotted or indicated by radar in the area.

A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for a tornado.

At 11:24 a.m., NWS meteorologists confirmed a tornado on the ground near Calhoun. Officials have reported major damage with numerous cars overturned in Adairsville.

Strong storms, high winds and pounding rain are all expected to hit the area today.

Meanwhile, all northbound and southbound lanes of I-75 at mile marker 306 are now open after there was tornado damage there in Bartow County. More than 100 cars were reported to be involved.
