New Kiwanis fundraiser event is Tuesday

A limited number of tickets are still available for the new Kiwanis Club of Dalton fundraiser members hope will supplement income from the group’s annual Pancake Day breakfast at Dalton Green.

“The needs of the children in our community merit additional funds from Kiwanis,” President Jamie Upton said. “We want to do our part to provide the additional funding.” Profits from Kiwanis activities go to local youth activities.

Upton said a reverse drawing and dinner will be held this Tuesday at the trade center. At the end of the evening, a lucky winner will receive the choice of a 2012 Toyota Tundra Double Cab complete with leather seats, towing package, bed liner, air conditioning and power window and locks or $17,500 in cash.

Members of the club are selling no more than 500 tickets for $100 each. You don’t have to be present to win, but Kiwanians are planning on making it a fun night for those who do come out.

The event is scheduled for 6 to 9:30 p.m. with dinner starting at 6:15 and the drawing beginning at 6:30. Each ticket also includes admission to the dinner with a choice of steak or chicken. Upton said guests of ticket holders may come for an extra $20 if paid for at the time of ticket purchase, but many individuals are choosing to buy two or more raffle tickets for a greater chance of winning.

The reverse drawing allows for a fun evening. Kiwanians explain that tickets will be drawn one at a time. The winner of the grand prize will be the last ticket drawn.

Upton said the owner of the first ticket drawn will receive a cash prize of $100. Then at least every 50th ticket drawn will also receive a prize.

Pancake Day has been a fixture at Dalton Green for more than 50 years. Kiwanians see the new fundraiser as a great way to help children’s programs and activities even more.

Anyone needing tickets can call Rick Klein at Brown Industries (706) 213-1685, John Thomas at Dalton Utilities (706) 463-2216 or Jamie Upton and Larry Harrison at Cohutta Bank on North Thornton Avenue near the hospital (706) 281-2940.
