Safe Kids Dalton receives grant

Submitted by Safe Kids Dalton

Safe Kids Dalton recently received a $3,000 grant and 140 car seats from UPS.

Original reports were that the grant was for $50,000. Another organization got the larger donation.

Safe Kids Dalton held a car seat check safety event at the Kmart on Walnut Avenue last month with 81 seats inspected, 38 seats removed and 57 given out by 14 certified passenger seat technicians.

Retta Gavin, Safe Kids Dalton coordinator, said, “There is no way we could have done this without the support of all agencies: the Dalton chapter of the American Red Cross, Georgia State Patrol, Dalton Police Department, Dalton and Whitfield County fire departments, Hamilton Medical Center, EMA, Whitfield County Sheriff’s Department, Murray Medical and Mohawk Industries. This is a way we can put seats into the hands of those that otherwise cannot afford them.”

Others who participated were the Walnut Avenue Chick-fil-A with general manager Rusty Reid, a former 18-year paramedic, and Kmart, which offered car seats for sale at a reduced rate.
