U.S. Department of Agriculture “surplus” commodities will be distributed to eligible area residents beginning May 14 at the American Legion at 1118 N. Glenwood Ave. in Dalton, North Georgia Community Action Inc. officials say.
Foods will be distributed daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the supply is exhausted. Completion of a signed “Household Eligibility Criteria Form” showing that the amount of household income is at or below the level shown for the appropriate size household will qualify the household.
Guidelines are:
• Household of one: $1,127 per month or $260 per week
• Household of two: $1,517 per month or $350 per week
• Household of three: $1,907 per month or $440 per week
• Household of four: $2,297 per month or $530 per week
• Household of five: $2,687 per month or $620 per week
• Household of six: $3,077 per month or $710 per week
• Household of seven: $3,467 per month or $800 per week
• Household of eight: $3,857 per month or $890 per week
For each additional person, add $390 per month or $90 per week.
An individual can be an “authorized representative” for one household. The representative must present to the worker a completed authorization form from the household he or she is representing. New authorization forms are required. New forms are available at Community Action’s Whitfield County Community Service Center.
Misrepresentation of need, or sale or exchange of USDA commodities, is prohibited and could result in a fine, imprisonment or both. The program is available to all eligible applicants regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex or handicap.
