The American Legion Post 112 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 4985 are sponsoring a downtown Dalton parade on Saturday to honor all veterans and those currently serving in the military throughout the world.
Everyone is invited. All veterans who wish to ride in the parade should report to the parade marshals at 501 W. Waugh St. (old jail building) between 9 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. The parade will start promptly at 10 a.m.
Expected to participate are civic clubs, National Guard units from Dalton and Cleveland, Tenn., car clubs, motorcycle clubs, Civil War re-enactors and scout troops. The bands from Dalton, Northwest and Southeast high schools will also participate. In all, more than 45 units have registered.
After the parade, the public is invited to attend the Veterans Day service at the King Street entrance to the courthouse. There will be speakers and awards presented, including the Veteran of the Year.

Dalton State names 693 students to spring dean’s list
Dalton State College has named 693 students to the dean’s list for the spring 2012 semester, including 345 students from Whitfield and Murray counties. To be named to the dean’s list, a student must maintain a full-time course load of 12 or more semester hours and achieve an overall grade point average of 3.5 out of a possible 4.0.
