Whitfield Education Foundation Showcase of the Stars auditions scheduled
Students with dreams of being a star can have their moment in the spotlight at the sixth annual Showcase of the Stars, a family-oriented musical talent show hosted by the Whitfield Education Foundation.
The fundraiser gives students an opportunity to gain experience performing in front of a live audience while raising money to support the foundation’s Innovative Teaching Grant Program.
Auditions are set for Saturday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Whitfield County Career Academy. This year, there will be a $20 fee for auditions to be held on a first come, first served basis. The fee includes three tickets with a face value of $21 to the show on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the historic Wink Theatre in Dalton. The audience will vote for the first, second and third place performers in the elementary, middle, and high school age categories. The selected participants will earn trophies and cash awards.
Lip-synching is not allowed. Performers need to bring their own backup music on CD or be prepared to sing a cappella. The song used during the audition must be the song to be performed at the show. Musicians should prepare two different songs in case their first choice has been selected by a previous contender.
The Whitfield Education Foundation is a community based nonprofit organization established in 1991 to assist the Whitfield County school system. The foundation's mission is to enhance the schools in areas not funded by the education budget. The foundation’s work includes recognizing excellence in staff and students, honoring retired staff and keeping alumni connected to Whitfield County Schools.
Innovative teaching grants are a major focus of the foundation. Several fundraising events are held each year to help fund these grants. It is the goal of the foundation to award $25,000 in innovative teaching grants annually.
