Church news and vacation Bible schools


Cool Springs Baptist Church recently named Phillip and Carol Brackett as its new youth directors. The church is on Cool Springs/Holly Creek Road in Chatsworth. For more information or directions call (706) 370-5780. Pastor Travis Martin welcomes everyone.



• The Seekers Quartet of Cleveland will be in concert Sunday at 11 a.m. at Little Prospect Baptist Church.

The church is located on Ga. Highway 2 east of Prater’s Mill in Varnell. Pastor Johnny Payne welcomes everyone.



• Riverbend Baptist Church will celebrate homecoming Aug. 3 at 10:30 a.m. with special music by The Covenants of Chatsworth. Lunch will be served after the service.

The church is on Riverbend Road in Dalton. Pastor Grady Bartley welcomes everyone.



• New Hope Baptist Church will celebrate homecoming Sunday at 10:30 a.m. with special singing. Lunch will be served after the service.

There will be no evening service.

The church is at 2105 Tunnel Hill-Varnell Road in Tunnel Hill. Pastor Mark Atkins invites the public.



• Center Point Baptist Church will celebrate homecoming Sunday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Ross as guest speaker. There will also be special music.

Lunch will be served following the service. There will be no evening service.

• Crossroads Community Fellowship will celebrate Community Give Back Day Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Dalton State College auditorium. All who attend will get at least one free gift. There will also be a giveaway for free groceries.

Special music will be provided by Kelly Ridings.

• The AWANA program will begin Aug. 17 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Rocky Face. Classes will be each Sunday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Classes are available for ages 2 years through sixth grade.

• Maddox Chapel Baptist Church will host a night of bluegrass-gospel music Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. featuring The Liberty Boys of Benton, Tenn.

Other groups include Calvary Baptist Strings of Tunnel Hill, the Pleasant Gap Trio of Ellijay and the Still Blessed Trio of Ringgold. Proceeds benefit Tim McCurdy.

• Cedar Valley Cathedral of Praise in Dalton will have its third week of revival Sunday through Wednesday with Evangelist Joel Talley as guest speaker. Sunday services begin at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., with remaining services beginning at 7:30 p.m.

• Spring Place Baptist Church will celebrate homecoming Aug. 3 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Danny Watters of Douglasville as guest speaker. A covered dish luncheon will be served following the service.

• Antioch Baptist Church has announced the following upcoming events:

Sunday at 6 p.m. — The Ingrams in concert

Aug. 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — “Paws for a Cause” community dog show to raise money for the youth mission trip. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. Categories include Best Dressed, Prettiest, Ugliest, Best All Around and Most Like Owner. Prizes will be awarded for each category. • Open Door Light House Church will host a benefit singing Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. featuring special singers. Proceeds go to the Burns family who recently lost all of their belongings in a house fire.

A love offering will be taken.

• Bethel A.M.E. Church will celebrate Family and Friends Day Sunday at 3 p.m. with speaker the Rev. Leonard Daniels and the Grays Chapel A.M.E. church family as special guests.

The theme is “Disciples of Jesus.” Lunch will be served following the morning service.

• The Myles Howard Family will be in concert Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church in Dalton.

• Free Will Baptist Church will reopen Sunday at 10 a.m. with Sunday school and worship.

• Mountain View Baptist Church will host its first annual open car show today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the North Georgia Fairgrounds. Awards will be given to the Top 25 cars. There will also be a 50/50 drawing and goody bags while they last.

Proceeds go to the church youth group.

• North Georgia Baptist Temple will host a Back-to-School carnival today from 9 a.m. to noon at the church. Backpacks filled with school supplies will be given to the first 300 children who arrive.

There will also be free hot dogs, snow cones, games and prizes.

• Jeff Stice, pianist for the Triumphant Quartet, will be in concert at Tunnel Hill United Methodist Church Aug. 8 at 7 p.m.

• Spring Place Baptist Church will celebrate its 162nd anniversary with homecoming and dedication of its new preschool, children’s and youth educational building Aug. 3, at 10:30 a.m. Former pastor the Rev. Danny Waters of Douglasville will be the guest speaker.
