From Staff Reports
Gov. Sonny Perdue has accepted a letter of resignation from Murray County school board member Fred Gibson and board members plan to name a replacement in 15 days, chairman Julius Weyman said Monday night.
Gibson sent a message to the board in April that he was ill and could not continue to serve.
Democrat Jerry E. Davis and Republican Becky Whaley qualified for the District 3 seat and will face each other in November. The winner will take office in January. They will not be considered to fill the seat through the end of the year, Weyman said.
Individuals interested in applying for the seat can call the school system’s central office at (706) 695-4531.
