The Whitfield-Murray Historical Society will meet today at 2:30 p.m. at the old Varnell School in downtown Varnell. The guest speaker will be Linda Geiger. She will present a program about the Old Federal Road that goes through Murray and Whitfield counties.
The public and all members are invited.

Lightning is a deadly by-product of thunderstorms, which are very common in Georgia, particularly in the spring and summer. Lightning kills an average of 55 people each year throughout the United States. It occurs mostly during the warmer months of June through September.
