Through the June 30 reporting period, Whitfield County sheriff candidate Claude Nix had raised more money than his rival in the July 15 Republican primary, Paul Tipton.

Nix reported a total of $14,270 in cash contributions and another $175 in in-kind donations, compared to Tipton’s $3,980.97 in donations.

Incumbent Scott Chitwood, who is unopposed in the Democratic primary, reported $57,675.75 in total donations but that appears to include money raised during previous campaigns. Chitwood reported $1,725 in donations for the second-quarter reporting period.

Candidates are required to itemize contributions of $101 or more.

All three are Republicans. Incumbent Ray Broadrick is not seeking re-election.

Previously reported: Through the June 30 reporting period, Karen Brewer Horne had outspent Harold Brooker in the District 2 Whitfield County Board of Commissioners Republican primary race.

Brewer Horne spent $4,780.75 on a variety of campaign materials including badges, signs and newspaper advertising. Brooker spent $470 on the position qualifying fee and a sign permit from the city of Dalton.

Brewer Horne listed a $10,000 loan from herself and received another $800 in contributions. Included were contributions from Dan Davis ($150), Garland Sales ($200), Edith Middleton ($250) and Helen Tuck ($150). Brooker listed a $3,270 loan from himself and $100 in contributions.
