GeoComm representatives working in the county
Submitted by Whitfield County government
Four GeoComm representatives are now in the field, driving from structure to structure collecting address information for the Whitfield County Address Location Project.
Wednesday was the first day in the field, with GeoComm representatives successfully knocking on doors of about 200 structures. The representatives have started in the outlines of the county and will work their way into the city of Dalton limits.
The project will be one of the most important public safety initiatives that Whitfield County completes in the next few years. The purpose of the project is to locate every structure in Whitfield County to aid in emergency response and correct potential errors. GeoComm will focus on correcting five errors in the addressing system:
• Stacked addresses: An example would be duplexes that are numbered 101A, 101B, 101C. This does not apply to apartment complexes that have different numbers and letters.
• Even and odd: Making sure even/odd numbered addresses are on the correct side of the road. An example of an error would be a sequence of 101, 106, 109.
• Out of sequence: An error would be 101, 205, 107.
• Duplicate addresses: Two people in the community with the same address.
• Private drive: Any drive with three or more structures on it will become a private drive.
