A Dalton woman charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine is expected to be sentenced in U.S. District Court in Chattanooga on March 20.
Patricia Laney, 25, entered into a plea deal with prosecutors earlier this month, according to information from the court clerk’s office. U.S. Magistrate Susan Lee recommended that Laney remain in federal custody,
Laney was indicted in March of this year on charges of conspiring to distribute at least 500 grams of methamphetamine and possession of at least 50 grams of methamphetamine. She was apprehended in June in Brownsville, Texas, while trying to cross the Mexican border into the United States, officials have said. She lived in Mexico for several months under an assumed name, according to a spokesman for the Bradley County (Tenn.) Sheriff’s Office.
An anonymous tip led to the arrest of a Chatsworth man on a charge of failure to register as a sex offender, officials said.
Tony Lee Plott, 24, was arrested Thursday night at 55 Lunsford Road, said Ray Sitton, chief deputy with the Murray County Sheriff’s Office. Plott gave Murray County Jail officials the address of 4959 Alternate 52 W., Chatsworth, when he was arrested. His address on the Georgia Sex Offender Registry is listed as 4959 Stone Drive, Chatsworth.
Convicted sex offenders are required by law to update their address every time they change their address.
Plott was convicted in 2002 in Whitfield County Superior Court of statutory rape, according to information from the Georgia Department of Corrections. He remained in the Murray County Jail Friday evening without bond.
