Wednesday was the third day of qualifying for area municipal elections. As of late Wednesday afternoon:
• In Dalton, City Council member Charlie Bethel qualified for Ward 4. On Monday, incumbent Dick Lowrey qualified for City Council Ward 2, and Dalton Board of Education member Steve Williams, who is also board chairman, qualified for the seat he currently holds. Qualifying ends in Dalton on Friday.
• In Cohutta, Don Henderson qualified to run for re-election as mayor, and Wesley Mahan also qualified for the mayor’s race. Incumbent Ben Manis qualified for re-election to the Town Council. Incumbent Gabriel Powers qualified for the Town Council on Tuesday. Wednesday was the last day of qualifying in Cohutta.
• In Tunnel Hill, there will be no election, an official said, as incumbents Ken Gowin, Hub Griffin and Ray Anderson were the only candidates to qualify for the three City Council seats up for election. Gowin is currently serving as mayor. The council elects the mayor. Qualifying ended Wednesday.
• In Varnell, no one qualified on Wednesday. Brent Newsome qualified for Post 2 on the City Council on Tuesday. Mayor Dan Peeples qualified for the mayor’s post, and incumbent Carlus Mosier and James Caldwell qualified for Post 1 on the City Council on Monday. Qualifying ends there on Friday.
• In Chatsworth, Celeste Martin qualified for Post 1 on the City Council, which is currently held by Margaret Adams. Michael Ray qualified for Post 1 on Tuesday. Wayne Graves qualified for Post 2 on the City Council, which is currently held by Ken Wilburn, on Monday. Qualifying ends Friday in Chatsworth.
• In Eton, incumbents Billy Cantrell and Steve Shaw qualified for mayor and for Post 2 respectively. Post 1, which is currently held by Jeff Manis, is also up for election. Qualifying ends Friday in Eton.
