Firm notes numerous changes at Peachtree

Officials with Assisted Living Concepts (ALC), the firm that runs Peachtree Estates in Dalton, say they have made numerous changes at the assisted living facility to address concerns about care there.

“ALC is proud of the changes that have taken place as part of the ongoing conversations between residents and staff at Peachtree Estates,” said ALC representative Josh Silberberg.

ALC has appealed a notice of intent to revoke its license to operate a personal care home from earlier this year by the state Department of Community Health’s Healthcare Facility Regulation Division. An administrative hearing is under way but a decision isn’t expected until this fall.

ALC provided the following list of changes that have been made:

Menu/food quality

• Corporate ALC dietitian visited on two occasions and dietitian continues to routinely follow up with the community.

• Menu was modified to meet the residents’ preferences during the corporate dietitian’s visit.

• Special food committee meeting held and committee is ongoing.

• Created resident choice meal program, one of the most recent included a rib-eye steak offering at the resident’s request.

• Snack and refreshment station implemented.

• Increased kitchen hours from approximately 10 hours per day to 18 hours per day.

Recreational activities

• New Meaningful Pursuits Coordinator (MPC) hired. The MPC joins Peachtree with more than two years of experience in planning and executing activities in assisted living communities.

• The August Meaningful Pursuits calendar includes routine scheduled outings into the Dalton community.

• A new exercise program is being put in place this month.

Staffing

• Secured permanent, full-time registered nurse wellness director (40-plus hours).

• Added 40-hour concierge/receptionist.

• Increased direct caregiver hours by approximately 25 hours per day.

• Increased housekeeping staff from approximately 20 hours per week to 40 hours per week.

• Increased maintenance from approximately 24 hours per week to 40 hours per week.

Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Charles H. Roadman II was hired by ALC earlier this year to lead the company, and during a June visit to Peachtree Estates said he told family members of residents, “I’m here to find the problems and fix the problems and regain the trust in ALC.”

Some family members last week acknowledged the changes at Peachtree but said they are still waiting to see improvement.

ALC says family members with concerns should first speak with the residence director and if that does not resolve the concern a written grievance can be filed. If the family member believes additional action is needed both the regional director of operations and the divisional vice president’s contact numbers are available. ALC noted it also provides a toll-free customer comments telephone number for family members or residents if there are “questions, compliments or concerns.”
