A pillar of smoke was visible from Chattanooga Avenue Thursday afternoon as firefighters responded to Columbia Recycling, a manufacturer of conveyor belt material.
At 3:40 p.m. a call came into the Dalton Fire Department that Columbia Recycling was on fire.
“It started in the Dumpster,” said Penney Bates, safety director for Columbia Recycling. “The problem was just the smoke, but (the fire) was put out immediately and everyone evacuated.”
Bates said there was no structural damage and no one was injured.
