The Dalton Police Department arrested Melissa Rodriguez and Steven Rodriguez Jr., both of 105 Allen Drive in Dalton, and charged them for the theft of $220 from a purse stolen at the Kroger grocery store.
After surveillance images from the crime were released to the media on August 24, investigators received a call from the Rodriguez family stating that they wanted to return the money. After a formal interview, investigators obtained warrants for the arrest of Melissa Rodriguez and her son Steven Rodriguez Jr. They turned themselves in to the Whitfield County Jail on August 30. Melissa Rodriguez was charged with theft of lost or mislaid property and shoplifting, while Steven Rodriguez Jr. was charged with tampering with evidence.
