A Dalton woman has been arrested in connection with the death of her ex-husband.
Kimberly Williams, supervisor of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Cleveland office, confirmed the GBI arrested Loretta Ivey on Tuesday.
Ivey’s current husband, Shawn Glenn Ivey, was arrested in September of last year and charged with the murder of John Hade of Ellijay. Hade was a longtime resident of Dalton and Tunnel Hill. Shawn Ivey pleaded not guilty in Gilmer County Superior Court in January.
Hade’s skeletal remains were found on the eastern side of Fort Mountain on Sept. 8. The GBI determined he was killed sometime in late 2007, according to a press release. A missing person’s report had not been filed with any law enforcement agency, the GBI said at that time.
Johnny Russell, an investigator with the district attorney’s office in the Appalachian Judicial Circuit, had previously said Loretta Ivey was a “central figure” in the case but would not elaborate.
Contacted after Shawn Ivey’s arrest, Loretta Ivey said she had no comment.
The exact charges facing Loretta Ivey were not known at press time on Thursday. A telephone message left at the office of the Appalachian Judicial Circuit district attorney Thursday afternoon was not immediately returned. The judicial circuit includes Fannin, Gilmer and Pickens counties.
