Barron wanted to see community improve

Former colleagues remember Angela Burt Barron as someone who cared deeply about her family and her community.

“She was a fine loving woman. She was very giving and very generous. She always put others before herself,” said United Way of Northwest Georgia President Amanda Burt.

Barron, 45, of Chatsworth, passed away Monday due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Burt said that Barron worked for the United Way as a seasonal account executive in the fall of 2009 and 2010, helping with the fundraising campaign.

“She would go out and meet with companies and help them run their United Way campaigns. She worked in both Murray and Whitfield counties. She’d been involved with us as a volunteer before that,” Burt said. “It’s a great loss to our community, she was such a fine person.”

Barron also worked at the Family Support Council several years ago as an outreach worker.

“She would go into people’s homes and work with them on parenting skills and help them get their children ready for school. She worked with families that had pre-school age children,” said Family Support Council Executive Director Holly Rice. “She was absolutely wonderful. The families loved her. She had compassion.”

Barron also worked with Camp Tomorrow, the support council’s summer camp.

“She worked with teenagers there as a camp counselor. She had really wonderful rapport with teenagers,” Rice said. “She loved children and families and had a real desire to help improve her community. She was a real sweetheart of a person.”

The funeral service for Barron will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5 until 9 p.m. Burial will be at United Memorial Gardens.
