A married couple who nearly died in a house fire Wednesday on Griffin Street in Dalton are in critical condition at the burn center in Augusta, family members said on Thursday.
Rebecca Hunter said her father-in-law and mother-in-law are still being closely watched.
“Right now they are both critical but stable at this time,” she said. “We still don’t know too much more about what’s going on or anything. We are getting all the family together to make decisions on what needs to be done.”
The fire started in the sofa in the living room around midnight Wednesday, officials said, and while firefighters haven’t determined the cause, they did say the male was a smoker.
Hunter said the female victim has no health insurance and is still suffering from smoke inhalation.
The family is also in need of financial support. Hunter said donations can be sent to the Joseph M. Still Burn Unit in Augusta for Danny and Joy Hooper.
