Restaurant report card — Whitfield County

Whitfield County Environmental Health conducts inspections of restaurants every three months. The inspectors may require a re-inspection. Restaurants are required by law to post their most recent inspection permit.

The Daily Citizen lists areas where the establishments are out of compliance with the regulations.



Pleasant Grove Elementary School, 2725 Cleveland Highway

Tony’s Italian Restaurant, 933 Market St., Suite 14

Comments: Observed a couple of items not covered in the refrigerator (such as frozen peas and salad dressing) in under counter cooler. Otherwise, staff is doing excellent job keeping foods covered. Clean and sanitize long prep boards above coolers as needed. Procedure/policy — manager described proper cleaning in place procedure.



Checkers, 502 Liberty Square

Comments: Hair restraint required on all food handlers. Keep cloths in buckets with sanitizer at 100 ppm. Replace torn gaskets. Service Ansul system.



Hardee’s, 1301 Glenwood Ave.

Comments: Sanitizer for ware washing at 0 ppm quat. Corrected to 300 ppm quat. Dishwasher stated that after running sanitizer, he cools it off with straight water. The dispensing unit is designed to dispense the correct concentration so mix cold and hot on the line attached to the sanitizer. Clean the grates in the hood to remove buildup of grease. Clean floor under equipment, especially under ice machine and freezer beside it.



Little Tokyo, 816 Walnut Square Blvd., Suite 28-A

Logan’s Roadhouse, 811 Walnut Square Blvd.

Comments: Observed grill cook take out raw salmon from cooler with cheese in one hand and the raw salmon in the other. Set the salmon down and transfer the cheese to the hand that held the raw salmon. The grill cook was made aware that he had contaminated the cheese and it was discarded. He then placed the salmon on the table holding clean plates for service and opened the packages allowing juice from the raw salmon to spill onto the surface. The dishes were removed and the table sanitized. Person in charge must ensure that employees are trained on how to handle raw potentially hazardous foods and when to wash hands. A cutting board for lemons was in the hand wash sink at the bar. Utensils for food service should never be in the hand wash sink. Replace missing ties in kitchen area.



China Garden, 816 Walnut Square Blvd., Suite 5

Comments: Chicken at 117 degrees on the steam table (discarded). Must hold at 135 degrees or higher or use time as a public health control with procedure and documentation of time. Wet wiping cloth not stored in sanitizing solution. Always keep cloths in sanitizer between uses. Food scoop with handle in sugar. Store scoop where the handle extends out of food. Clean the fan vents in the walk-in cooler to remove what appears to be mold.



Dalton Elk’s Lodge-Vista Restaurant, 1212 Elkwood Drive

Comments: “Homemade” jars of peppers in establishment. All foods must come from an approved source. No handmade items permitted. Some items without dates and some with too many days marked. Put “use by” date on all opened/prepped foods. Seven days with day one being day you open/prep. Several cans of tomato soup had burst. Discard damaged foods. Ice machine leaks. Leak at base of faucet — two-compartment sink on left.
