Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office authorities have arrested a man they said had about a pound of methamphetamine at his residence worth nearly $50,000.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, Gary Wayne Griggs Jr., 36, of 4671 Old Dixie Highway, Dalton, was taken into custody. Griggs has been charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and a parole violation. He is being held in the Whitfield County jail.
The release from Sheriff Scott Chitwood states a sheriff’s office investigator assigned to the Safe Streets Task Force received information that a large quantity of meth was inside the residence on Old Dixie Highway. Task force members and agents from the Department of Probation and Parole executed a search warrant there shortly after 9 a.m. Friday, finding nearly a pound of meth, two firearms and $11,000 in cash inside, all of which was seized.
At the same time the warrant was executed, a second person who had been visiting Griggs was sitting in a vehicle just outside. A “small amount of meth” and more than $1,000 in cash was seized from Kenneth Swan, 32, of 212 Hummingbird Lane, Calhoun, officials said.
Swan was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
