From Staff Reports
Authorities investigating a Wednesday morning wreck that killed a Calhoun man while he was driving a tractor-trailer through Murray County believe the man may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Jack Lawrence said Anthony Toles, 59, was driving a tractor-trailer hauling some kind of hazardous chemical when his rig veered off the road on Highway 411 North near Brushtown Road at about 6 a.m. Wednesday. Lawrence said the incident report shows Toles’ vehicle struck a couple of power poles and rolled over, pinning him inside. He was not wearing a seat belt.
Lawrence said reports show Toles was already deceased by the time rescue crews were able to cut him out of the truck.
“Very possibly, he just simply fell asleep,” Lawrence said.
A portion of the road was closed until about 5 p.m. while crews dealt with the hazardous material and offloaded it onto another tanker, he said.
