On Tuesday, Aug. 31, at 9 a.m. at the Whitfield County Courthouse, the Corrections and Parole Board Office of Victim Services along with the Conasauga Circuit District Attorney’s Victim Assistance Office will hold a “Victims Visitors’ Day” for victims of crime and their families.
The day’s events are designed to bring together crime victims along with victim service providers, justice professionals, allied professionals and volunteers who selflessly work to assist victims of crime and their families.
Since their inception in 2006, nearly 1,000 victims or relatives have attended the 13 Victims Visitors’ Day events that have been held at various locations around the state. Dalton hosted the second such event in June 2006.
“This is a very important day for the Parole Board,” said Chairman James Donald. “Providing support to victims in conjunction with the Department of Corrections is a shared responsibility we embrace. Victims of crime should never be forgotten or left alone to deal with the long-lasting effects of crime.”
The Office of Victim Services offers direct assistance to victims of crimes and their families whose offenders have been remanded to the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections or who are currently under the supervision of the State Board of Pardons and Paroles. The Office of Victim Services encourages crime victims to become informed and involved in the case of their offender.
At the Victims Visitors’ Day, through one-on-one meetings, crime victims in attendance can have input into the parole process and access information concerning the person who committed the crime. They will receive information regarding the current status of their offender, and can register to receive future notification of the status of their offender.
