The Public Safety Commission recognized a retiring Dalton firefighter with a record of rescuing victims on Tuesday.
Chief Bruce Satterfield of the Dalton Fire Department noted Lt. Randy Hammontree has been recognized during his 34 years of service for rescuing a trapped elderly female from a structure fire, helping to locate and rescue a handicapped elderly patient from a fire with a fellow firefighter, and assisting a seizure victim while off duty.
Hammontree was the department’s firefighter of the year in 1991.
“You have daily put your life on the line so the rest of us can feel secure,” Commission Chairman Bill Weaver told Hammontree while presenting him a plaque of appreciation.

An application to sell package beer and wine was approved for Dalton Food and Tobacco at 601 N. Glenwood Ave. since the business has changed ownership. New licenses for pouring beer, wine and liquor were approved for the Stone Lion Tavern at 243 N. Hamilton St., El Agave Mexican Restaurant at 100 W. Walnut Ave., Suite 68, and Tony’s Italian Restaurant at 933 Market St., Suite 14.
