DALTON —
Dalton businessman Gary Crews will be sworn in as the city’s newest City Council member tonight.
Crews, practice manager for MedNow and a Realtor for Century 21 Belk, was the only person to qualify for a special election to fill Charlie Bethel’s unexpired term in the Ward 4 seat. Since no one else qualified, no election will be held.
Bethel stepped down earlier this year to run for the General Assembly. The term expires at the end of 2013.
Council members are scheduled to vote on a contract with the Georgia Department of Transportation which calls on GDOT to provide $63,182 in materials to resurface all or parts of Britney Place, Broadrick Drive, Conway Street, Greenbush Place, Lavert Drive, Loveman Lane, Virgil Drive and Walston Street.
The council will also consider a $4,725 contract with Spectra Contract Flooring for carpet cleaning and maintenance in City Hall.
The council is also slated to vote on package beer and wine licenses for two Walgreen stores.
