Restaurant report card — Whitfield County

Whitfield County Environmental Health conducts inspections of restaurants. The inspectors may require a re-inspection. Restaurants are required by law to post their most recent inspection permit. The Daily Citizen lists areas where the establishments are out of compliance with the regulations. Recent restaurant scores for all six counties within the North Georgia Health District are available at www.nghd.org.

Chili’s Grill & Bar Restaurant, 881 Holiday Inn Drive

Comments: Hand washing sink was blocked by garbage container and trays. Must be accessible at all times. Box of chicken was observed on floor in walk-in cooler. Food must be maintained six inches above floor. Handles were observed in cheese. Keep handles out of food to avoid contamination. Plates in storage were found face up and uncovered. Maintain utensils covered or protected by putting them face down. Microwave needs to be cleaned.

Comments: An employee was observed wiping surface and then handling biscuit. The wiping cloth was visibly soiled and moist; biscuit discarded. Gloves must be removed, hands washed and new gloves used before handling food to avoid contamination. Clean gaskets and hot lamp above fries.



Gill’s Grill, 1511 Abutment Road

Comments: Boiled eggs from yesterday were observed in kitchen reach-in and out of temperature. They did not cool properly. Eggs were observed in large, deep container. Place cooling food in shallow containers and leave partially covered or uncovered to allow heat release. Be careful when storing cooling food in cooler to keep it protected from contamination. Cheesecake on display and fried chicken on buffet line had only been out for about 30 minutes. Time should be used as a control when food will be out of temperature. Records of time shall be maintained through stickers or paper (binder). Food out of temperature may be used for a maximum of four hours. Freezer floor and soda dispenser need to be cleaned.



McDonald’s, 1523 W. Walnut Ave.

Comments: Tomatoes in prep cooler were found to be out of temperature as well as the four-hour limit. Discarded. Ready to eat, potentially hazardous foods must be maintained at 41 degrees or lower. Avoid stacking foods to allow them to maintain temperature (tomatoes, cheese, diced ham). Time used on eggs in basket above the grill was for six hours. Eggs or any potentially hazardous foods kept out of temperature may only be out for a maximum of four hours. Label eggs, tomatoes and cheese in prep cooler if temperature issues continue. Knife was observed stored with the blade under the toaster, the surface had considerable debris. Maintain utensils on clean surfaces to avoid contamination. Test strips were not available. Soda dispenser needs to be cleaned. Supply men’s restroom with paper towels. QAC bucket at 200 ppm, sink at 100 ppm. Chlorine bucket at 100 ppm, sink 50 ppm.



Logan’s Roadhouse, 811 Walnut Square Blvd.

Comments: Employee was observed cleaning off a steak knife with wiping cloth from bucket. Sanitizer levels in bucket were not in compliance and showed debris. Utensils cannot be wiped down with dirty cloths to avoid contamination. Employee observed about to serve an undercooked chicken. He was ready to put it on a plate when temperature was recorded. Poultry must be cooked to 165 degrees or more for 15 seconds. Multiple wiping cloths were observed sitting on surfaces out of their buckets. Keep wiping cloths in sanitizer buckets with appropriate strengths.



Burger Den — Rocky Face, 2620 Chattanooga Road

Comments: Ready to eat, potentially hazardous foods in prep cooler were all out of temperature. Unit is still not working properly after repairs it had previously. All ready to eat, potentially hazardous foods out of temperature were discarded. Do not use this cooler to hold ready to eat, potentially hazardous foods until it cools properly. Ice baths may be used in top prep to hold lightly stacked containers of cheese, tomato, ham and other potentially hazardous foods used. Check temperature to ensure ice bath is enough to keep food in temperature at 41 degrees or below. Time can be used as a control. Record times, food may be used for four hours out of temperature. Hot dog wieners did not have date marking on opened original containers. Corn dogs were found five days past use-by date. Discarded. Date all ready to eat, potentially hazardous foods and discard appropriately. Food is good for seven days including day prepared/original bag was opened. Gallon of milk was found in ice maker and box of coffee was on floor. Do not store anything in ice maker to avoid contaminating ice. Keep food six inches off floor. Several wiping cloths were found out of sanitizer buckets. Maintain sanitizer levels at 100 ppm (chlorine) for the buckets. Utensils from grill were found resting on soiled cloths. Do not put utensils on cloths as they may contaminate utensils.



Garcia’s Grill Mexican Restaurant,

Comments: Observed employee drink in bottle stored over food in reach-in. Drinks must be in single-service cups with lid and straw and placed below food and food contact. Observed several prepared foods that were not properly dated with prep or use-by date. For proper cooling, use shallow containers less than four inches and do not cover. Place in coolest part of unit, etc. Do not put wiping cloth buckets on floor. Maintain 100 ppm chlorine. Store single-service items six inches up off floor. Keep Dumpster doors closed. Clean up premise. End caps missing on one light. One set of lights is not working.



Willie’s Burger Shack II, 2953 Cleveland Highway, Suite E

Comments: Employee eating in kitchen on prep table. Employees must leave kitchen to eat. No soap at front hand sink. All hand sinks must be fully supplied. Provolone at 58 degrees, sliced tomato at 64. Maintain at 41 degrees or lower on cold holding potentially hazardous foods. Two unlabeled chemical bottles. Label all chemicals correctly. Glue on shelf above bread. Do not put toxins over food. Store wiping cloths in sanitizer when not in hand. Do not put on countertops. Post permit for public view. Do not remove. Change gloves when changing tasks. Keep Dumpster closed. Clean up outside area.
