North Georgia Community Action says that U.S. Department of Agriculture “surplus” commodities will be distributed to eligible area residents beginning June 24 at American Legion Post 112 at 1118 N. Glenwood Ave. in Dalton.
The distribution will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the supply is exhausted. Completion of a signed Household Eligibility Criteria form showing the amount of household income is at or below the level shown for the appropriate size household will qualify the household for receipt of commodity foods.
An individual can be an authorized representative for one household. The representative must present to the worker a completed authorized form from the household the person is representing. New authorization forms are required for the distribution. All previous versions are obsolete and cannot be accepted. The new forms are available at North Georgia Community Action’s Whitfield Community Service Center and can be picked up prior to the distribution.
Misrepresentation of need, sale or exchange of USDA commodities is prohibited and could result in a fine, imprisonment or both. The program is available to all eligible applicants regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex or handicap.
For more information or to find out the eligibility criteria call the Community Service Center at (706) 226-7241.
