Two Murray County men who face charges related to the death of a 13-year-old Dalton boy in a wreck are out on bond.
Dean T. Butt, 23, of Crandall, and Rene Preciado, 25, of Chatsworth, posted bond from the Catoosa County Jail last week after they were arrested following back to back wrecks on July 22 near Tunnel Hill. Officials say Adrian Martinez, a student at North Whitfield Middle School, was killed as a result.
Butt is charged by the Georgia State Patrol with first degree vehicular homicide, DUI, endangering a child under 14 while DUI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and speeding. Preciado was charged with first degree vehicular homicide, DUI, reckless driving and speeding.
A message left at a Chatsworth phone number for a Rene Preciado wasn’t immediately returned Monday. A phone number for Butt could not be found.
A spokesman at the Catoosa County Jail said both men posted bond last week, but he did not have information on how much their bond was since the jail doesn’t keep records of that information after inmates are released.
Public Defender David Dunn said he will represent Preciado but wasn’t sure yet if he would represent Butt. Dunn said the district attorney will evaluate the case and decide which charges, if any, to bring before the court.
Trooper 1st Class Stephanie Maddux said in a previous interview Martinez was riding in the back of a Chevy Cobalt that Butt was driving when Butt lost control of the car and flipped it over. Preciado then hit Butt’s car with a Nissan Altima, she said. A Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is investigating, Maddux said, but preliminary information indicates both drivers were speeding.
