Man pleads guilty to child molestation

Sister taped confession

A Cohutta man whose sister said she secretly recorded him making a “confession” of molesting her daughter and two other underage relatives pleaded guilty Thursday in Whitfield County Superior Court to one count of child molestation, a court officer said.

Justin Ryan Adams, 22, of 4533 Wilson Road, pleaded guilty before Judge Cindy Morris and will be sentenced on July 6. District Attorney Bert Poston said Adams could be sentenced to between five to 20 years in prison.

Adams’ sister, Natasha Adams Clay, was mentioned in The Daily Citizen in a December 2010 article detailing the investigation into the alleged molestations and why the district attorney’s office was unable to file charges at that time.

Former district attorney Kermit McManus said in August of last year that investigators were “looking for additional information so apparently they found additional information and they made the arrest.” He acknowledged a family member recorded a tape but said he could not comment on its content.

Adams was given a $25,000 bond in August and had to wear an ankle monitor while a student at Georgia Southern University and abide by bond restrictions given to those accused of sexual offenses.

Adams was originally represented by Circuit Public Defender Mike McCarthy but is now represented by Dalton attorney Mike Corbin. He pleaded not guilty in December of last year.
