Bluegrass Bands and Helping Hands strikes up the bands again to benefit North Georgia jobless

DALTON — Bluegrass Bands and Helping Hands has announced that its second benefit concert is scheduled to be Sept. 25.

An annual event, Bluegrass Bands and Helping Hands concerts are about bringing in some of the very best bluegrass musicians to benefit North Georgians impacted by job loss. Last year, the group raised over $10,000 for DOC-UP, a nonprofit organization which helps families with rent and utility assistance. Betty Brant, DOC-UP director, said that the organization “assisted 1,600 plus families, and the number of requests are continuing to grow. The extra funds generated from this project will help to keep families from being evicted from their homes or having their utility services disconnected.”

The concert will be take place at 5 p.m. in the Recreation Place at First Presbyterian Church, 510 S. Tibbs Road.

The concert will feature from Sweden G2 Bluegrass Band (www.g2bluegrassband.com). G2 won the No. 1 European bluegrass bands title in 2007. The band has already toured America playing festivals such as Bean Blossom, ROMP, and IBMA Fan Fest. In 2009, G2 performed during the IBMA awards show and is returning to the U.S. for a summer tour. Also appearing will be, The Dismembered Tennesseans, the Gold sisters (Gold Heart) from Virginia and The Hillbenders. In 2009, The Hillbenders won the prestigious Telluride Bluegrass festival contest.
