DALTON —
A father and daughter who were discovered dead in a Dalton apartment on Thursday died of natural causes, authorities said.
Alvin T. Howard, 78, and Deborah A. Howard, 54, were both in “critical” health situations, said Whitfield County Coroner Bobbie Dixon.
“They wouldn’t let anybody take care of them,” she said. “We had them autopsied and everything came back as (dying from) natural causes. It was one of those godawful incidents that happen.”
Dixon said she could not comment on their health conditions.
Dalton Police spokesman Bruce Frazier said a relative from out of town called the department and requested officers check on the two.
“One of our officers went over there with the landlord to the apartment, and got in there and found that they had both died,” he said. “I don’t really know when they died, if it was in relation to one another, but there’s no reason to suspect foul play or anything of that nature.”
An obituary from Jim Rush Funeral Home in Cleveland, Tenn. noted that Alvin Howard worked at Coronet Carpets for more than 30 years. A Remembrance of Life service will be held for both Howards at 11 a.m. today in the Wildwood Chapel of the funeral home at 220 Wildwood Avenue in Cleveland.
