Busing problems fixed for some

Widespread delays and errors that caused Whitfield County Schools bus riders to be several hours late getting home were fixed for some families by Monday, but officials said they’re still working on the problems.

“Service has improved, and our staff continues to improve bus schedules,” said school system spokesman Eric Beavers. “They are returning calls as quickly as possible.”

A combination of improperly working software, a reduction in the number of routes and elimination of door-to-door pickups in most areas have caused the delays and confusion in getting children to and from school since classes resumed Thursday.

The school system is directing questions about where students’ stops are located to Amanda Jennings (amanda_jennings@whitfield.k12.ga.us or 706-537-3638) for students at schools on the north end and to Sandy Kelley (sandy_kelley@whitfield.k12.ga.us or 706-537-3635) for schools on the south end.

Beavers said officials are working to correct the problems and respond as quickly as possible to concerns. Because of the high volume of calls, email may be the best way for families to get through, he said.
