The Civil War Trust needs volunteers to help clean and restore 12 Civil War sites throughout Georgia, including Anderson Cemetery in Rocky Face and Prater’s Mill in Varnell, on Saturday, March 31 as part of Park Day 2012.
The annual event is part of a nationwide effort that includes more than 100 sites in 25 states. In exchange for their work, volunteers will receive T-shirts and have an opportunity to hear a local historian describe the significance of the site. Volunteers are encouraged to contact representatives with the individual sites:
• Anderson Cemetery: Steve Hall at tunnellhill@windstream.net. Activities include landscaping and general clean-up.
• Prater’s Mill: Judy Alderman at judy@pratersmill.org. Activities include painting, structure restoration and trail maintenance.
Park Day is underwritten by a grant from the History channel. For information, visit www.civilwar.org.
