Daughters of the American Revolution name ‘Good Citizens’

The Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award for 2012 has been awarded to Max Alexander England of North Murray High School.  

England is the son of Kay and Brent England of Chatsworth. He was the local essay winner in the contest sponsored by the Robert Loughridge Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Other finalists were Conner Matthew Ellis from Christian Heritage School, son of Judy and Harlan Ellis; Elizabeth Nicole Gregory of Northwest Whitfield High School, daughter of Orenda and Marvin Gregory; Rigo Gonzalez from Northwest Georgia College and Career Academy, son of Vicente and Reyes Gonzales; and Brittany Graham from Murray County High School, daughter of Nicole Hunter. These students were named “Good Citizens” at their high schools. They were selected for their dependability, service leadership and patriotism.

England is a member of the football team, was nominated for Governor’s Honors for two years in social studies, and is a member of Key Club, TSA Club, FCA and FBLA. He is also vice president of the Student Council and was accepted into an Honors Program at North Georgia State College. He is involved in Scouting — having earned the title of Eagle Scout — and at Holly Creek Baptist Church where he has taken on numerous community projects. He plans to attend college in the pursuit of a degree in engineering.

“I enjoy being involved in my school and in my community which allows me to stay busy and help other people,” he said.

Ellis is a member of the National Honor Society, received the chemistry honors award, is a member of the concert band, is a Scholar Athlete, is involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and helps with the Salvation Army food bank. He is a second degree black belt. He plans to attend college and major in engineering with a minor in business.

Gregory is a member of FCA, Key Club, Beta Club, National Honor Society and the school Design Team. She has been on the honor roll and involved in basketball at school, church and AAU groups. She volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club, City of Refuge and Providence Ministries, and has attended mission trips with her church. She plans to attend college and earn a degree in physical therapy.  

Gonzalez is a member of the Future Educators Association and has received awards in science, German and literature. He received a perfect attendance award, Top Ten Student Award and the Teaching as a Profession Award. He plans to attend college and major in education.

Graham is involved in the marching and concert bands, Student Council, FCA, is a member of the tennis team, and was drum major. She was selected for District Seven Honor Band, Governor’s Honors program and UGA Janfest. She volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club and plans to attend college and earn a degree in music education.
