The Cohutta Town Hall once again has a handicapped parking space designated outside its front door. City officials placed a sign designating the spot Tuesday afternoon.
“It was just down temporarily while we moved it,” said Mayor Don Henderson.
The federal Americans with Disabilities Act requires public parking lots to have spaces designated for handicapped parking, with the number of handicapped spaces varying based on the total number of spaces. Lots with 25 or fewer parking spaces must have at least one van-accessible handicapped space.
The Daily Citizen asked about the lack of handicapped parking earlier this week after a reader raised the question.
“There’s usually plenty of parking right in front of the door. We have court once a month, and that’s generally the only time we have anyone coming here,” said Henderson. “As far as I know, this is the first time anybody has asked about it.”
There are several handicapped parking spaces at the town’s ball fields and recreation complex.

‘It was a brutal time’
