Tunnel Hill approves smaller budget

The Tunnel Hill City Council approved a $622,000 budget this week.

That’s a large decrease from the $684,000 budgeted for 2012 and the $714,000 the city actually spent last year. But city officials said the actual operating budget will remain “pretty flat,” with most of the decrease coming from one-time expenses that won’t be needed this year.

They say the city plans no cuts in positions or services. They say it also plans no new major purchases or projects. The city will dip into its fund balance for $102,000 to balance the budget.

The city does not have a property tax, getting its revenue from its share of the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) and other sources.
