CHATTANOOGA —
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher and Dalton native Mitchell Boggs visited patients at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger on Monday.
Boggs made his Major League debut with the Cardinals in 2008 and was a member of the team that won the World Series in 2011. He delivered signed photos and baseballs and talked about various teams during his visit. Some of the older children even had the opportunity to try on his 2011 World Series ring.
“I hope I was able to lift some of the patients’ spirits,” said Boggs. “I believe they helped me as much as I helped them. I also want to get the word out about how important Children’s Hospital is to these patients and the community.”
His guest appearance was made possible by the Christian Bryant Foundation. Christian, who was a star athlete and student at Girls Preparatory School, sadly lost her battle with cancer six months ago. Her 115 days in the hospital were filled with nurses, doctors and specialists who cared for her. Her mother, Robyn Bryant, began the foundation to provide support and funding for Children’s Hospital as a way to thank those who dedicated their time and skills to Christian.
“Christian touched so many lives, and this place meant so much to her,” said Boggs. “The foundation will do great things through her legacy and what she stood for.”
