A career fair to hire staff for the Georgia Department of Labor’s Disability Adjudication Services (DAS) office scheduled to open in Dalton in October will be Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the trade center.
Information about the jobs and qualifications may be found at www.dol.state.ga.us. Click on the “Jobseekers” tab, then the “Find a Job” link, then the “Employment Opportunities With GDOL” link, and finally the link to “Current Job Opportunities.” Search the listings for jobs located with Disability Adjudication Services in Dalton. A link to a State of Georgia Employment Application is provided at the bottom of the page. The positions are expected to be filled by Sept. 15.
The office will initially employ up to 45, including supervisors, hearing officers, adjudicators and their associates, help-desk specialists, and program associates and assistants. Professionals will also be needed to conduct medical and physiological assessments and examinations.
The position of Disability Adjudication Associate requires applicants to take a test administered by the State Personnel Administration (SPA), which will be given during the career fair. The test will start promptly at 1:30 p.m. and will end at 5 p.m. Those interested in applying for one of these positions should come prepared to take the test.
Applicants can complete a State of Georgia Employment Application during the event, but are encouraged to visit www.dol.state.ga.us or the SPA website at www.spa.ga.gov and complete an application ahead of time. Completed applications may be turned in at the career fair. Applications may also be faxed or mailed. Faxed applications must be received, and mailed applications must be postmarked, no later than midnight Friday, Aug. 27.
DAS is a program of the labor department’s Division of Rehabilitation Services which coordinates with the Social Security Administration (SSA) to make disability determinations for Georgia residents who apply for programs administered by the SSA. These programs include Disability Insurance (SSDI) for workers who pay FICA taxes and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a disability needs program.
