DALTON —
A former Dalton State College professor was indicted by a Whitfield County grand jury on Thursday on multiple counts of child molestation and rape, a court officer said.
Monte Gale Salyer, 58, of 3000 Marran Drive in Rocky Face, was indicted on six counts of aggravated child molestation, four counts of child molestation, two counts of rape and one count of statutory rape involving offenses that occurred over a period of several years involving three victims, said District Attorney Bert Poston.
A sheriff’s office investigation found Salyer allegedly molested an 8-year-old relative and two other children he befriended at church.
Salyer was an associate professor of English and English as a Second Language at DSC. He was initially placed on leave from teaching. Dalton State spokeswoman Pam Partain said on Friday that Salyer has since resigned.
Salyer is scheduled to be arraigned on May 10 in Superior Court with Judge Cindy Morris presiding, Poston said.
A phone number for Salyer could not be found.
