At least one person is in jail after authorities say he led officers on a chase that began in Tunnel Hill Friday night and finally ended in Walker County.
A Georgia State Patrol operator said an initial report shows a state trooper became involved in the chase at about 8 p.m. Friday after the Tunnel Hill Police Department initiated contact. The chase traveled on Ga. Highway 201 north near Ga. Highway 136 while the driver of the car fled.
Officials said a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office deputy deployed spike sticks that made contact with the vehicle’s front tire, and the driver eventually turned onto a driveway off Ga. Highway 201 but continued driving through the woods and struck a tree. The driver then fled on foot before a Tunnel Hill officer and a state trooper apprehended him.
Reports were unclear on whether the passenger who also fled was apprehended. The name of the driver couldn’t be confirmed as of Monday evening.
The trooper involved in the chase couldn’t immediately be reached, and Tunnel Hill Police Chief Roy Brunson wasn’t immediately available for comment Monday afternoon. Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Rick Swiney referred questions to Tunnel Hill authorities, saying he didn’t have all the information on the case.
“We were only an assisting agency,” Swiney said.
He said the chase ended in a field in Walker County.
