The 2010 American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Whitfield County is right around the corner. You can register your team today by visiting the event Web site at http://events.cancer.org/rflwhitfield or by calling the local American Cancer Society office at (706) 278-1960.
This year’s goal is to have 35 teams at Relay. In 2009, the Relay For Life of Whitfield County raised over $124,000 in the fight against cancer. The 2010 Relay For Life will be held on June 4 at the North Georgia Fairgrounds with opening ceremonies beginning at 7 p.m.
Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and local programs of your American Cancer Society. Teams of family members, friends, co-workers and others join together each year to raise funds for the American Cancer Society and make a difference in the community. In honor of those who battle cancer 24 hours a day, team members take turns walking the track throughout the day and night. For those not walking, there is around the clock action to keep everyone busy. From entertainment, food and games to touching ceremonies and stories of inspiration, there is something for everyone at Relay For Life. It is an event like no other.
At every Relay For Life event, we celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer through our Survivor’s Lap and survivor recognition. The strength of survivors inspires others to continue the fight. We also remember the loved ones lost to the disease with our Luminaria Ceremony.
At Relay, people who have walked along those battling cancer can grieve and find healing. Finally, we fight back against cancer because everyone has been touched by cancer and we want to put an end to the disease. Relay helps individuals make a commitment to save lives by taking up the fight.
Anyone interested in forming a team or participating in Relay can contact Natalie Phipps, American Cancer Society community manager, at (706) 278-1960.
