DALTON —
A groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 1791 Carter Drive on Saturday at 9 a.m. to launch the building of a home for the Edgar Gutierrez family. The George R. Johnson Foundation is sponsor for the building of this house.
The Johnson family is the owner of the Hardee’s restaurants from Loudon County, Tenn., to northwest Georgia and have supported all of the communities that have a Hardee’s. The Johnson Foundation was created from the will of George R. Johnson at his death. The Dalton Whitfield Habitat for Humanity is very grateful to the Johnson Foundation for partnering with us to build this house.
Edgar and Claudia Gutierrez grew up in Dalton and he works in a local mill. She is a stay-at-home mom with four children. They are anxious to own a home of their own and provide a safe place for their children to grow up. They are already busy working on their “sweat equity” hours and will continue now on their own home.
Dalton Whitfield Habitat is now completing house No. 47 and the new house for the Gutierrez family will be No. 48. Our affiliate was formed in 1987 and we are proud of the support in the community to help us with our mission of eliminating substandard housing.
Dalton Whitfield Habitat operates a Habitat Restore at 1509 N. Thornton Ave. and accepts donations of building materials, working appliances and household goods which are sold to help buy materials to build our houses. To find out more about the affiliate, construction site or Home Store please call us at (706) 272-3336 or visit the Web site at www.habitatforhumanityofdalton-whitfieldcounty.org.
