Flag Day help from Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution

There was a great crowd of volunteers on the morning of Flag Day, June 14, to help with putting up the flags on the Whitfield County Courthouse lawn and along King Street.

Each time the flags are set and unfurled, various organizations help the staunch volunteers of the United We Stand group who initially started the program of honoring our veterans. The Noon Rotary Club coordinates each flag posting and also oversees preparation of the flag holes for the standards. The Boys and Girls Clubs pull up caps each time.

This time, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Sons of the Revolution were the hosts.

The next time the flags go up will be July 4, Independence Day, when the hosts will be the Lions Club, Kroger on Cleveland Highway and the Whitfield Democratic Club.

Volunteers, both organizations and individuals, are needed for each holiday for the 7 a.m. posting and the 5 p.m. retrieval. Any organization that wants to be a host on any of the military holidays should call Bitsy McFarland at (706) 581-1037. Individual volunteers are welcome at any event.
