Tea party to meet Tuesday

Fayetteville Commissioner Steve Brown is the guest speaker at the Dalton Tea Party’s monthly meeting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Green Room at Ryman Hall.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

Brown is an Atlanta native. He holds a degree in journalism management from the Grady College of Journalism at the University of Georgia, and currently works as a freelance writer, in addition to his duties on the board of commissioners.

Brown was appointed to Peachtree City’s first Ethics Board in 2001. He later held the elected office of mayor of Peachtree City from 2002 to 2006. In 2005, under his leadership, CNN and Money magazine recognized Peachtree City as one of the “Top Ten Best Places to Live” in the United States.

In an effort to promote state legislation to aid and protect Georgia’s cities and their citizens, he co-founded the Metropolitan Atlanta Mayors Association, a collaborative alliance comprised of the 67 cities in the greater Metro Atlanta area. He has also served as the association’s chairman. He has held numerous posts with Georgia Municipal Association and served on the policy cabinet of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority.

Brown’s bold stands on regional government planning and transportation issues led to his recognition as one of “Georgia’s 40 Rising Stars Under Age 40” in business, government, education, academia, medicine, arts, nonprofit sectors and the judiciary, as selected by Georgia Trend magazine.
