Candidate profiles: Reed: Upgrades made to computer system

Connie Gallman Reed believes she has made the Murray County clerk of Superior Court office more “digital, accessible and convenient.”

A Democrat, Reed faces Republican Donna Flood in the Nov. 6 election. She said if re-elected, her second term will focus on continuing to improve technology and “preparing for the future.”

“eFiling is something we want to get ready for,” said Reed. “I want to be prepared for when that comes to us. The trend is continuing to grow and we need to be ready for it.”

eFiling is an online service that allows attorneys to file their paperwork electronically and create a “paperless environment,” said the Georgia Superior Court Clerk’s Cooperative Authority website, which offers the service.

“It’s something big,” said Reed. “I need to make sure the computer system is as up-to-date and ready for eFiling so we can make the adjustment with ease.”

Reed said she has a record of updating the office.

“I have made several upgrades to our computer system,” said Reed. “When I got here, nothing was digital. If someone needed a receipt, we’d have to go find it. Now things like deeds, case files and real estate information can be pulled up and printed. You can also pay fees online now. Everything in our accounting program is now connected. All of this makes us more clean and we get things done faster.”

A Murray County native with 19 years of experience in the clerk’s office, Reed started as a court reporter and became the clerk of Magistrate Court in 1996. She was elected to her current position in 2008 when then-clerk Loreine Matthews retired.

“I am trustworthy, honest, and I’m here to be the best possible clerk and to make this office as good as possible,” said Reed. “We are online. We are here to inform. It’s all about convenience and accessibility. We’re here to help anyone out who needs help.”

Reed has an associate’s degree in court reporting from Chattanooga State Community College. She is a member of the American Cancer Society and is married to Alan. They have two adult children.

Reed said she “greatly appreciates” the support she has received from voters and encourages them to support her again.
