‘Skimmer’ suspects nabbed in Nashville

Men thought to have rigged local bank’s ATM last week

Two Bulgarian men believed to be involved in the placement of a bank card “skimmer” at a Dalton Regions Bank last week were arrested by police in Nashville, Tenn., authorities said.

Atanas G. Georgiev, 28, of 8193 Brookwood Valley Circle in Atlanta, and Chris Svetlinov Dragiev, 27, of 4555 Kings Crossing Drive in Kennesaw, were arrested shortly after another skimmer device was placed on an ATM at a bank in Nashville Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

Dalton Police Department officers have been working with Regions Bank security officials during an investigation that goes back to Oct. 13 when the skimmer device was discovered here, said DPD spokesman Bruce Frazier. A skimmer is a device inserted over the top of an ATM card reader that reads and stores card information that can later be used by a computer hacker.

“On Tuesday afternoon, Regions Bank security detected the suspects at an ATM at Dickerson Pike in the Nashville area,” Frazier said. “When investigators started checking video feeds from other ATMs nearby, they saw the suspects covering an ATM camera with a sticky note at approximately 4:30 p.m Eastern time. They made contact with the Metro Nashville Police Department who pulled over the suspects’ vehicle, a silver Volkswagen Tourag, near Opry Mills shortly after. The suspects had the keys to an Audi in the car with them, and investigators believe that they changed cars after using a red Audi in the Dalton incident.”

Frazier added that Dalton Police investigators are working with investigators from Regions Bank to try to determine if the suspects were able to use any stolen bank information from citizens in the Dalton area.

“At this point, that information remains unclear,” he said. “This case is still under investigation.”

Frazier said he did not know the citizenship status of Dragiev and Georgiev.
