Two Dalton men and a woman from Ranger were arrested and more than a pound of methamphetamine was seized Tuesday while detectives with the Whitfield County Sheriff’s were conducting a meth trafficking investigation.
Jeffrey Lamar McGuire, 39, of 2502 Hill View Drive, was wanted at the time of his arrest for a felony probation violation. He is now also charged with trafficking in meth, possession with intent to distribute meth, possession of tools for the commission of a crime — all felonies — and one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana.
Kenneth Scott Gribble, 48, also of 2502 Hill View Drive, is charged with possession with intent to distribute meth, trafficking in methamphetamine and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, all felonies.
April Michelle Barton, 39, of 5867 Red Bud Road, is charged with conspiracy to violate the Georgia Controlled Substances Act, trafficking in meth, possession with intent to distribute meth and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, all felonies.
During the investigation, detectives received information that a large illegal narcotics transaction was going to take place in a parking lot on Cleveland Highway Tuesday afternoon. While conducting surveillance of the location a vehicle arrived in the parking lot containing the suspected trafficker (McGuire) and another white male (Gribble).
When officers approached the vehicle at 8:30 p.m. and identified themselves McGuire attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after a short struggle with officers. Meth was found in their possession, and both suspects were taken into custody.
“As a result of their arrest, officers conducted a search at a residence located at 2502 Hill View Drive and recovered additional methamphetamine and arrested April Barton at the residence,” Sheriff Scott Chitwood said. “Over a pound of methamphetamine with a street value of approximately $50,000 was seized from the three individuals. Also located and seized was over $6,000 in cash.”
The Georgia State Patrol assisted the sheriff’s office in the investigation, Chitwood added. All three suspects are currently being held without bond in the Whitfield County jail.
