DALTON —
The Family Support Council has named local certified public accountant Gordon C. Morehouse its 2010 Toast of the Town honoree. The celebration will be June 17 at 6 p.m. at The Farm in Rocky Face.
Morehouse is a native of North Georgia. He and his wife, Dianne, have three grown children. Gordon obtained a business administration degree with a major in accounting from the University of Tennessee. He has been a CPA for more than 40 decades and has been associated with the same local accounting firm now known as The Morehouse Group.
Morehouse has earned a reputation in the community that made him the unanimous choice for this year’s honoree. His fingerprints are all over his profession and the community. There is nothing he does that would not stand up under the most intense public scrutiny. He has an unparalleled reputation for “doing the right thing,” no matter the circumstances.
Morehouse has served on the boards of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Cherokee Area Estate Planning Council and the Regional Council of the Institute of Management Accountants. He is also a past director and president of the Northwest Georgia chapter of the Georgia Society of CPAs, a charter trustee of the Georgia Federal Tax Conference and also a past president of the Institute of Management Accountants. He has earned recognition as the Dalton/Whitfield Chamber of Commerce’s Outstanding Professional of the Year and those are just some of his professional engagements.
Personally, he was the founding president of the Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center, a charter member of the local Boys and Girls Club, past president of the board of directors of the Salvation Army and chairman of the board of the United Way of Northwest Georgia. He was also a trustee of the Hamilton Healthcare Foundation and past chair of the Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce. He also served as treasurer and founding chairman of the Community Foundation of Northwest Georgia.
Morehouse is a longtime member and deacon of Dalton First Baptist Church and also a Rotarian. He was recently presented he 2010 Robert S. Stubbs II Guardian of Ethics Award by the Rotary Club.
