A Dalton woman died Sunday after an “accidental shooting” that occurred as she handed a handgun to her husband, officials said.
Tammie Elizabeth Hammock, 47, of 1807 Shadow Lane, Apartment 2, was initially transported to Hamilton Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her head, according to a press release from the Dalton Police Department.
Hammock’s husband, Otis, also 47, told investigators the gun was accidentally discharged as she handed it to him in their home at the Chalet Valley Apartments near the intersection of Waugh Street and Shugart Road around 1 p.m., the release states.
Detectives and agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are still investigating the shooting.
No arrest has been made and no charges have been filed.
