To assist member agencies in Whitfield and Murray counties, the Chattanooga Area Food Bank delivered 16,000 pounds of food to the Salvation Army in Dalton on Thursday.
“After attending the Hunger and Housing Forum last June, we realized that the North Georgia communities are among the hardest hit by the economy in our service area,” said Clare Sawyer, Chattanooga Area Food Bank president. “The easiest and quickest solution is to begin regular food drop-offs.”
The Chattanooga Area Food Bank serves 20 counties, including nine counties in Georgia. Food is distributed through a network of member agencies, including churches and nonprofit organizations that operate food pantries or are shelters and group homes. There are 19 such agencies in Whitfield and Murray counties.
Food delivered included pasta, tomato sauce, raisins, macaroni and granola bars.
